The Raden technique used on the Jewel Raden series are that of Takaoka Shikki, traditional handicraft originated in Takaoka city, Toyama. The production of Takaoka Shikki is said to have started during the early years of Edo period when Takaoka castle was built. Raden is the technique where thin shell lining, such as that of an abalone shell, is placed on surfaces of wood, glass, or metal releasing a beautiful glow. This brooch will glow like a jewel in different colors depending on the amount and the angle of light that shines upon it.
